Keep Your Kitchen Clean
Food like cereal, rice, or anything in a cardboard box should be stored in plastic airtight container containers. Do not leave dirty dishes in the sink and wipe up any crumbs or spills immediately.
Vacuum Often
Keeping your floors clear of crumbs is a good way to prevent pests from entering your home in the first place.
Check Outside
Check the weather-stripping or use door-seal kits to make sure there are no cracks or gap in your windows and doors. Make sure your screens are in good repair and check attic vents for any points of entry.
Seal Around Pipes
The utility pipes that enter your house can be easy access points for insects. Check for gaps and cracks and caulk if necessary.
Don’t Store Firewood In Your House
There’s nothing better than gathering around the fire on a winter’s night. But did you know that firewood can be a hotbed for insect activity? Many different kinds of insects burrow into firewood and storing wood in your house can be an invitation for them to emerge and seek out food in your house. Keep wood at least 20 feet away from your house.
Keep Debris Away From Your House
The maintenance of your yard plays a big role in pest infestation. Piles of leaves or other debris can be an attractive house for mice and rats and just one step closer to getting in your house. Trim tree branches touching your house acting as bridges to your roof for bugs and squirrels.
